SOMI (Slum Outreach Ministries International) is a faith-based outreach organization dedicated to transforming the lives of underserved individuals and families residing in marginalized urban environments. Our mission is rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, with a commitment to both spiritual and practical empowerment. Through intentional follow-up and discipleship, we nurture lasting spiritual growth and foster meaningful relationships with God.
In addition to spiritual outreach, SOMI addresses urgent material needs by providing food, clothing, and access to essential services. Our community development initiatives include literacy programs and vocational training, equipping beneficiaries with the tools to participate actively and sustainably in their local economies.
SOMI was founded in 1987 in Nairobi, Kenya, when Margaret Kimuyu responded to a divine calling to leave her career in accounting and begin ministering to her neighbors. What began as a personal act of obedience in an upper-middle-class neighborhood quickly grew into a broader mission: to share the Good News of Jesus Christ and guide individuals and families into enduring relationships with God.
Margaret’s faithful response was met with remarkable impact, as lives were transformed and communities began to flourish spiritually and socially. Her journey laid the foundation for what SOMI has become today—a ministry committed to holistic outreach and community renewal.
Even the smallest act of giving carries divine weight. Scripture reminds us that generosity multiplies—easing burdens, restoring joy, and inspiring others to do the same. By supporting SOMI, you become part of a redemptive story that uplifts those often overlooked and empowers them to thrive.
