About Me:

Education & Training

Margaret Kimuyu is a visionary servant-leader whose life was radically redirected in 1987 when she responded to a divine calling that led to the founding of SOMI (Servants of Mercy International) in Nairobi, Kenya. At the time, Margaret was working in accounting and living in an upper-middle-class neighborhood. But a clear instruction from God compelled her to leave behind professional security and begin a grassroots ministry—starting with her own neighbors.

Her initial mission was simple yet profound: to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with individuals and families, and to help them cultivate a lasting relationship with God. Margaret’s obedience bore fruit quickly, as many came to faith through her door-to-door outreach. What began as quiet conversations in residential corridors soon grew into a dynamic ministry that reached deeper into Nairobi’s urban fabric.

Recognizing the immense spiritual and material needs in the Kibera slum, Margaret shifted SOMI’s focus to serve those most marginalized. Under her leadership, the ministry expanded beyond evangelism to include discipleship, follow-up care, feeding programs, clothing distribution, health services, literacy training, and vocational empowerment for self-reliance.

Margaret’s approach has always been holistic—meeting both the spiritual and socio-economic needs of the communities she serves. Her work reflects a deep trust in God’s guidance, and a relentless commitment to uplifting lives through compassion, dignity, and practical support.

Today, SOMI continues to grow, with its eyes set on other underserved areas across Nairobi, following the same spirit-led path that Margaret first walked decades ago.
